Cotton is comprised half the worlds textile sales, but its conventional production is not as benign as you might expect. It is estimated that conventional cotton consumes approximately 25% of the insecticides and 10% of the pesticides used in the world. organic cotton production uses untreated, nno-GMO seeds, builds healthy soil through crop rotation, mechanically removes weeds rather than chemically poisoning them, maintains a balance between pests and their natural predators through healthy soil, and relies on the seasonal freeze or water management to harvest the cotton. Organic cotton growers help preserve our air, our water, our soil and the beautiful biodiversity of our planet.(Response courtesy of www.aboutorganiccotton.org) |
